Based in Long Island NY., Automation Source Technologies Inc. (AST) is a specialist designer and manufacturer of brushed DC pancake motors that utilise an ironless flat disc armature.
They offer a low inertia servomotor solution with high acceleration characteristics that perfectly suit applications where fast production throughput is required and where the thin and low profile design can save space.
AST has a complete range of separate armature/rotor designs as well as fully packaged motors including options for general and extreme environment use with output torque up to 3 Nm and speeds to 4000 rpm.
Available with built-in tachos, encoders and brakes, the low profile housings can provide a generous through hole that allows routing of cables, air supplies and other services.
The flat design has been useful for us for motion control in tight spaces and has been used to great effect with our zero backlash gear systems for specialist actuator/rotary stage designs.
